Hitting back at Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over the Rafale aircraft deal, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday made public three parliamentary replies by the previous UPA government in connection with armament purchases. His response comes a day after Jaitley alleged that defence ministers of the previous UPA government too had refused to share details of armament purchases.

“Dear Mr Jaitlie, You said the UPA never released prices of Defence purchases? To nail your lie, here are 3 Parliamentary replies by the UPA with full transparency on pricing. Now do ask our Raksha Mantri to tell India how much each RAFALE jet cost,” the Congress president tweeted while sharing the UPA government’s reply over the deal for the acquisition of the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov.

Dear Mr Jaitlie,

You said the UPA never released prices of Defence purchases?

To nail your lie, here are 3 Parliamentary replies by the UPA with full transparency on pricing.

In his tweet, Rahul Gandhi also twisted the Finance Minister’s name to indicate that he spoke untruths. The Congress chief is already facing a privilege motion for his word play on Jaitley’s surname.

On Thursday, Jaitley mounted a counter-attack, accusing the Congress and its president Rahul Gandhi of “seriously comprising India’s security” by insisting that the government disclose details of the Rafale aircraft deal. During his reply to the discussion on the Union Budget in Lok Sabha, Jaitley said Pranab Mukherjee had refused to give details of a contract by calling the informaton classified.

“Kindly ask your party president to go to Pranab Mukherjee,” he told Congress members.

“My charge is they are seriously compromising India’s security,” Jaitley had said. Break-up of armament purchase deals, he said, can divulge the kind of weapons that a country has and this is not in the “interest of the country”. Such information, he said, can let the “enemy” know about the type of weapons and capacity available with India. Gandhi has been stepping up attack on the present dispensation over the Rafale aircraft deal, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not revealing details because there was something “fishy” in the deal. Alleging scam in Rafale deal, he said Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had earlier said she would disclose all details about the pricing but was now saying she could not do so as it was a state secret. “Which of her two statements are correct because she has made both statements,” he asked.

“Rafale maamle main kuch na kuch gadbadi to hui hain. We had asked three questions to the Prime Minister but there is no answer,” he said. “There can be only one answer and it is that there is something fishy about this.”

Instead of wasting time here ppl can actually look up wat is Rafale deal and why the govt is not disclosing the cost of it. The deal was signed way back in 2016 and its cost was told to CAG and Parliamentary standing committee. Why is all the fuss now. Few of the defence deals can be disclosed and few cannot be. UPA had disclosed few and did not disclose few others. We Indians must introspect why we are not able to produce good fighter planes and why France a small country is able to. All we care is a degree a 6 digit ry. We fight over Petty issues like caste, religion.

Dear IG, It is not as simple as you theorize. It is not the fault of Indians. But their elected leaders who engage in massive corruption in every deals, even in coffins for soldiers (George Fernandez), Bofors (Rajiv Gandhi), fodders (Lalu Yadav), land grabs (Jayalalitha)….. They make money for generations and escape from any legal actions or jails due to inefficient legal system which they made for their welfare. Are you aware of the percentage of criminals in parliament or assemblies? The fight over caste, religion also has reasons. No other civilized country discriminate its citizens on the basis of caste and religion. Please do not blame the citizens for this. The fault is with the founding fathers who were short-sighted, power hungry and narrow minded and subsequent generations of so-called leaders whose interest is only money making and enjoying fruits of power. Leaders of advanced countries (eg: Japan, UK) are not of this category.

Rahuljee, governments lieing machinary is working overtime. Every word as said by arun in this regard is a lie. Absolute lie. There was no provision in iga done during upa regim which shows that the price to be kept secret. If it is true, i dare arun abd his boss ( defence ministers are non existing in all these cases), to table 2008 agreement in house highlighting the clause that forces price under secrecy clause. What kind of the government we have. If defence minister, finance minister and pm think that disclosing price is a security threat, then we must say that all three are security threat to india. And let us ne clear. Whether security threat or iga is the cause of non disclosing. If 2008 iga is the cause, then table 2008 agreement and if security threat is the clause, pleae quit. Price of raffel deal can not be a security threat. And above all this deal is bound by 2016 iga and not of 2008 jga. Lieing machines are working overtime in this government.

Lier pm, lier fm and lier defence minister, now u show the sgreement between upa and france about the secrecy . In that agreement, it was decided that both parties will decide which part is to be kept secret after the deal. Do u believe that price of sircraft is a secret information and how u decided this is a matter of national security. The way in which deal was finalised by modi in a hurry clearly shows that there is hsnky fanky in it. Such pm, fm and defence ministers are real threat to indias security. So arunjee, dont ever be in fools paradise that u r only wise person in duch matter. U may be wise in cheating and kieing. But there are other people who know things and details more than u. Now declare the price or put the iga between france and india on table of the house which asks that price should be kept secret. Without beating about the bush, put on table of the house on march 5, signed snd ratified inter government agreement or resign.
